A beautiful bride, a gospel group, and Boys Weekend!

Another week has come and gone and I got to see some beautiful wedding photos from Mrs. Melissa Scrushy Watson. Melissa had seen a photo on my website of a half up half down style that she just had to have. She had lots of hair so I knew it would turn out beautiful. Her makeup was simple, yet classy putting lots of emphasis on her eyes. She was a completely laid back bride just excited for her day and that made her an absolute pleasure to work with. She looks so happy in all her pictures and I can't wait to share them all with you!

I also did a photoshoot a couple weeks ago with Jarrett Gaza, and his assistant Stephanie Hines for a gospel quartet called Gold City. These guys were total troopers sporting these suits in the August mid day heat! They still look wonderful and Jarrett's work always brings out the best of people. It was a fun day full of laughs!

Boys weekend is coming up the last weekend of September! $12 haircuts to launch the new Paul Mitchell line made just for guys! I have already been using it a little here and there and have been in love with the results! One of the main goal of these awesome specials is to bring in new people so tell all your friends!

Brides, Photoshoots, and Mitch oh my!

I have not blogged in a while....my apologies. I have been busier than every this year and I have never felt so blessed. I am so thankful to God for giving me such a creative and fun job full of surprises and joy. My main excitement this year has been the increase of wedding business I have had. I truly love the wedding business. I think there is something so amazing about being such a wonderful part of some one's special day. My goal as a the hairstylist/makeup artist for a wedding is to make sure things run smoothly and stress free, to make the bride feel like herself just a more enhanced version, and to make sure the bride looks that way for her entire night consistent from the first picture to the last. I try to get as many pictures as I can from brides, but it is a little harder when they are brides I don't know. I have put together pictures I have gathered from one of my May and June weddings. You may know them :-)

Hollee Harris Claxton. An old friend from back in the day of Upward basketball. A client of mine before moving to Montana and meeting the man of her dreams. Luckily, she got married here in her home town and I got to be a part of her beautiful wedding day. My favorite part of her bridal look, as it is with most my brides was her headband. So unique and so dainty. I love the lace and I love her dress. Her makeup was kept simple and clean and complimented the look beautifully. Here are some snap shots from her big day by the always fabulous photographer Daniel Walley.

Melanie Hoyt Lamberth. I have also known Melanie for a long time and absolutely love doing her hair. She is excellent at styling hair herself so she is always very inspiring. You may remember her twin sister Sarah's bridal look from last year. Melanie already had someone prepared to do her makeup, but I thoroughly enjoyed being able to do her hair for her big day. She wanted a big poof and we teased and teased and teased until it was absolutely perfect. The whole look came together and I was fortunate enough to see her walk down the aisle. Here are some shots from her photographers Ulmer Studios. Oh and congrats on Baby Lamberth on the way :-)

I also had a few photoshoots this past month. I have only received pictures back from one so far. My cousin and upcoming artist Tre Michaels. He is a rock/country artist that is making his way on the music scene. You can hear some of his EPs on his facebook fanpage Tre Michaels. Like and share!

Last but definitely not least! I am so incredibly excited to announce that Paul Mitchell is launching a new men's line called Mitch! I am so excited to get this product in the salon and start using it and selling it to my boys! Check out the website to get a first look at the products in the line. Especially excited about the shampoo called "Double Hitter" a shampoo and conditioner in one! www.mitchtheman.com

Springing Forward

This is my favorite time of year! All the boys want short cuts and all the girls want highlights! What does this mean? Warm weather is coming soon! I will take this late Sunday night and update you on what is going on in my hair and makeup world!

The highlight of the past few weeks was without a doubt the "Fashion Focus Hair Show" in Nashville at the Convention Center. I have been posting statuses about this show and I keep getting asked "What is a hair show". The best way that I can describe it is like a fashion show for hair, a learning experience, a place to get great deals on supplies, and to spend time with people in the industry that go through the same trials and victories that you do every day. I went with fellow hairstylists Casey Teal and Jessica Justice and Nail Tech Lindsey Saboe from Hair and Body. All the different lines have booths and after stocking up on my new favorite line "Its a 10!" and a large bag of false eyelashes for all the prom/wedding season coming up, I parked myself at the best booth for learning creative techniques, Paul Mitchell. Colin Caruso of Caru Salon was the main speaker for the weekend. This was special for me because when I was in school, I assisted for him on stage for the Fashion Focus Show in 2007. His stories about his salon and his marketing ideas and his creativity was so inspiring to me. The main theme that I can tell you as far as color goes was "The Hombre". This is a french term for the way that the French dye fabric. It starts dark and fades to light. Check out any super model right now and she probably has it. This technique can go as dramatic or as natural as you want it.

Another theme he taught us is hair is fun. When it starts feeling like a job make it a hobby. Do hair for you. I took his advice to let my creative juices flow and had 2 clients Cori Johnston and Kayla Wills come in on Saturday and let me put this into practice. I told them to be prepared for change and if they let me do whatever I wanted, I would do it for free!

Cori has a very graduated bob that starts short and gets longer towards her face. She is also known for her spunky blonde hair that she wears so well. She was my perfect candidate for "The Hombre". I put a very warm tone of blonde at her roots with some shots of yellow pigment (shots of pigment added to your custom formulation) and it gradually became a platinum ash blonde on the ends. We kept her blonde but updated and customized her color to fit her lifestyle.

Kayla is a freshman in highschool who has only had a few highlights put in her hair and boy was she in for a treat! It excites me when someone is really excited to see the result! Naturally she is a brunette and I worked with reds and golds. I alternated a red color with extra shots of red pigment to really give it a punch, with a golden color with extra shots of yellow pigment to add more shine, and also a warm mohagany with violet shots of pigment to add depth. These 3 colors created a blend of warmth that gave her a super edgy and pretty color that melted together and put a big smile on her face. I thoroughly enjoyed doing these colors because it let me experiment and step out of the box and I got to create something beautiful.

This week I got to do makeup for Casey Ashley's album cover shoot. He is an upcoming artist and very successful fisherman. I also got the chance to work with Rob Watts Photography for the first time, who's work I have admired for a long time! I just got these pictures back and they look amazing. Very proud to be a part of this project and can't wait to see where his career takes him!

This is Lauren Jaco, a beautiful bride to be. We did her complimentary trial run and after deciding on the perfect wedding day look, we transformed her hair and makeup into the perfect style for her engagement photo session. Her long supermodel hair looked gorgeous from wrapping small sections around the wand of the curling iron instead of inside it. This creates more of a red carpet look rather than the typical curl. Her airbrush makeup lasted her all day and her eyelashes gave an extra pop in the photos.

I encourage everyone to take this time before it gets really warm and get your hair fresh, ready, and brightened up for summer time fun. After being inspired from the hairshow I feel so ready to take everyone's color to the next level and look at your hair from a creative standpoint instead of just covering up gray or roots. Hair is fun and should be continually updated and healthy. Make your appointment soon! I encourage you to check out the next blog that will be FULL of prom and wedding photos from this season! :-) Good night!
