NOW INTRODUCING SCHWARZKOPF IGORA COLOR 10! COLOR THAT PROCESSES IN 10 MINUTES!!

I am officially launching a new option to my color selections! Schwarzkopf(the color line I use) has launched a brand new line of colors that only takes 10 minutes to process! This is a great option to save time. It is 100% gray coverage and is permanent. It has 2 amino acids, Arginin and Glycin that are well known for their re-building effect on the deratin fiber of the hair. The nuturing benefits of these amino acids stabilize the protein structure and improve the hair condition. The two amino acids work together as a carrier of color pigments allowing them to penetrate faster and deeping into the hair. The result is a shorter more gentle coloring process! Options include: root touch up, mini root touch up, high lights, low lights, all over color. Message me for details!

October beauty

This month has been slammed with everything I love most. Weddings, haircolor, haircuts, and another photoshoot. I had two weddings this month. One on 10-10-10 (clever) and another was one of my own clients, Kimberly Louvin. Kim's hair was a gorgeous messy bun with polished curls pulled to the side. She used a gorgeous tiara/headband to bring the whole look together. Her makeup put emphasis on her eyes which was a nice mix of bronze tones and violet to bring out the blue in her eyes. The result was a gorgeous bride ready to take the next steps in her life and I wish her the best.

I love men's cuts. I think that a men's cuts are just as important as a woman's cut and there should be time and effort put into it. Just because you are a guy and you have less hair does not mean you should feel like you are going through a drive through at the salon every 4 weeks, get a quick clipper cut and leave. I especially love guy cuts with a story behind them. One of my clients this month has a bet to see how long he can grow his hair out and I am helping him keep it manageable and stylish in between time. Another client has had long hair for a while now and needed it cut short for a school activity. He was quite nervous about it, but after talking through it and making sure he knew it would be cool and a good change up, he got more and more excited. When he looked in the mirror smiling and said, "wow this looks so much better than I thought it would" it made my day and reminded me why I love my job so much! Guys- don't settle for a quick haircut. You deserve just as much treatment, attention, and style in the salon just like the girls do!

Yesterday I took part in a photoshoot that was so fun and I am so proud of. I gathered 5 great friends and clients to model for me and was so fortunate to have Jarrett Gaza be our photographer for the day. All the photoshoots that I do, I put so much emphasis on the hair and makeup, as I should. For this photoshoot, my goal was to perfect the look as a whole: haircut and haircolor, makeup, clothes, accessories, and posing. I have spent the past couple of weeks putting clothes together and picturing it in my head. I also did the models hair color and cut the week before the shoot to make sure everyone had shine and looked fresh and polished. I can't wait to see the final photos which will come in a week or two! Be on the lookout and make sure to leave some comments because I love to hear feedback!

I am looking forward to next month because of my annual Thanksgiving Special! This special happens every year for the week of Thanksgiving and has continued to grow! I am offering $10 off color prices, half price haircuts, and for new clients only free cuts! If you have not already made your appointment call me soon! Spots are filling up fast!

Summer Updates!

Hey everyone! I am taking some time to update everyone on what is going on lately! Business has been going so well and it is very exciting. In the last month I have had 2 wonderful weddings, 2 senior sessions, and looking forward to a major photoshoot with an upcoming artist tomorrow. A common problem this summer is the heat is so unbearable it is causing crazy hair and sweaty makeup. In one of the senior sessions I was a part of with Tara Beth Photography, we were outside and my car said it was 103 degrees! Luckily Megan Smith made a great choice to use my Temptu Airbrush makeup. In the picture above as you can see it appears she is barely sweating! This makeup is amazing. We also used a serum over her curls to keep them from getting frizzy in the humidity.

During the summer time, hair isn't a priority to most people. However, the summertime tends to be the most damaging to your hair. With swimming and heat and a more laid back approach to hair, split ends increase and styiling is a chore. A tip is to make sure you have a moisture mask used once a week. If you lay out by the pool or go out on the lake, leave the mask in all day and your hair will feel amazing after you rinse it out!

Keep up the referrals! Remember send 3 people to me and your next haircut is on me. Hope everyone is having a fabulous summer!
I have also had the chance to do some brazilian keratin treatments including on myself. It has been the best thing I have done for my hair to date. I wash it, blow dry for 10 minutes with my fingers and do a small amount of flat ironing on the ends. I can finally pull off a short fun flirty cut because my hair is flat. It has been a great change and I wish everyone could do it! It feels so healthy and has such a shine to it.

Brazilian Keratin Treatment Marcia Teixeira

The Brazilian Keratin Treatment is neither a traditional relaxer nor a straightener that can only be used on certain types of hair. There is nothing traditional about this new service. It is a universal product that can be used safely on any type of hair- dry, frizzy, overprocesses, color treated, ethnic, or even unprocessed virgin hair. Everyone can get the same results- healthy, shiny, frizz-free, manageable hair!

This process is different from other harsh straighteners and relaxers because it does not involve breaking down the hair and restructuring it. Other treatments have a pH level usually greater than 9 (very high alkalinity), causing the hair to be damaged. The pH range of the Brazilian Keratin Treatment is between 4 and 5, which is exaclty mathing the normal pH of the hair itself! The Brazilian Keratin Treatment is a long lasting and gentle reversible treatment that will eventually wash out over time without harming the hair. When it comes to keratin, its toughness is the key to the structural support it offers hair. Keratin's durability and strength to protect are the secrets that improve the hair both inside and out. The unique Biopolymer ingredient is virtually a liquid form of hair that gently blends with the hair on your head to help restore what has been lost through chemical and environmental stresses.

There are 3 options to choose from when it comes to Brazilian Keratin Treatment-

1. Original Formula:
Clients with Caucasian or Asian types of hair usually obtain the best results from the original formula. If you have dry, frizzy, curly hair this is an excellent idea for you. It removes most if not all of your natural curl, strengthens, and gives shine to your hair. Imagine letting your hair airdry and having no frizz or curl!

2. Chocolate Extreme De-Frizzing Formula:
This treatment features an Essential Amino Acid Blend containing eleven proteins, cupuacu butter, cocoa butter, flax seed oil protein, cinnamon essential oil, and of course Keratin Biopolymer. It is for clients with very coarse ethnic type hair or extremely tight curls. It will produce a more dramatic reslut than the original formula.

3. Advanced Brazilian Keratin Treatment:
This is for clients who swim or exercise every day, or clients who don't like the idea of waiting 3 or 4 days to shampoo their hair after recieveing the service. The difference between this product and the others is clients can shampoo and condition their hair 24 hours after the treatment, and the results will last approximately 6 to 8 weeks as opposed to up to 4 months.

Do's and Don'ts after Brazilian Keratin Treatment:
1. Don't was the hair for three days for the Chocolate and 4 days for the Original after getting the treatment. This allows the treatment to develope fully.

2. Don't tie the hair into a pony tail or braid, use hair clips, hair bands, or bobby pins, since these can affect the straightness of the hair and create unwant dents waves or curls.

3. Don't sweat excessively.

4. If you sweat or get your hair wet accidentally, use a blowdryer immediately and flat iron the areas where needed.

5. Use shampoos and conditioners that are sodium chloride free and sulfate free. There are Shampoos and Conditioners made by Marcia Teixeira that are recommended.

FAQ:
1. Can I perform this treatment after having my hair colored?
Yes this treatment should be used after the hair color. You may not color your hair until 2 to 3 weeks after the treatment.

2.Can I still wear my hair curly with this treatment?
Yes this treatment only removes 60 to 90 percent of your curl. It is more for removing frizz. It will cut your time by more than half for styling. It will flat iron easier and curl prettier.

3.How long will the results last?
Up to 4 months on most hair

4.Can I swim with this treatment?
Only after the 4 day period with the exception of the advanced treatment. The more you swim, the quicker it will fade off as with hair color because of the chlorine or salt buildup.

5. Can I use products during the 4 day period?
No. Do not use product of any kind to allow the treatment to fully develop.

Please message me or write a comment with any questions you have about the treatment. If you know me you know that I do not talk up a product unless it works! This is a great service and is the new trend all over the nation. It is a great service for virtually anyone and is very affordable for the time that it lasts! Message for pricing details. There is a discount for your first treatment so please ask about it!

Curly Curly Curly

Curls. So fun. So bouncy. So glamourous and romantic. For some, such as myself, its so easy! For some it takes a little more work, but there are so many fun and easy ways to master curly hair. So much of successfulness with curly hair depends on your haircut! Blunt, heavy, and bulky cuts will never work with curly hair! Make sure you have layers and disconnection. Twisting the hair is the key to styling. Whether you twist and diffuse, twist and air dry, or dry and twist around a curling iron its all about the twist. It is the key to modern looking curls. Take small sections and wrap around your finger before drying or wrap around any size curling iron instead of putting it through the clamp. It makes for a more modern curl but watch out for your fingers! Another great way to enhance your curls is through hair color! Sounds crazy I'm sure! Highlights or different tones through your hair can enhance curls because it gives it the effect as though the different colors are wrapping around eachother. This does not mean you have to get streaks through your hair for it to look good! Natural highlights or different shades of your natural color is a perfect option!

Summer Time... lets keep our hair healthy....

Hello all! I missed last weeks blog due to vacation. I know poor me! I thoroughly enjoyed the time on the beach. It was the most perfect weather and the time with family was priceless. As summer aproaches, everyone's lifestyles change and cause greater stress on your hair. There are many tips that can keep your hair moisturized, shiny, healthy, and looking beautiful.

1. Go natural. Let your hair dry naturally. If you have curly hair, put in a little gel and let it go! This is such a beautiful look for summer. It saves the effort and damage of constant blow drying and flat ironing.

2. Out for a day at the beach, pool, or lake? Wet your hair and apply a conditioner or moisture treatment in your hair before going out. Pull it up in a pony tail, braid, or bun and let it soak all day. Your hair will feel amazing after you rinse it that night. Its quite exciting.

3. Wear a hat as much as possible to protect your hair color.

4. Never forget your sunscreen to protect your skin! The best way to fight the ageing process is to save your skin from the damage of the sun at all times.

Questions Welcome!

Children With Hairloss

Today was a very exciting day! My client from my previous posts, Laura Gruber, decided to cut over 8 inches off of her hair for the organization Children with hairloss. It was quite an experience! I have done a few donations before and it is always a pleasure! To do something with hair that really makes a difference is such a blessing! We cut her pony tail with excitement and did a medium length cut with an angle and a long bang! It looks amazing! Laura has thick hair so I also did a little texturizing to make it easier to style for her. It was great fun and we support all hair donators and organizations!

Thanks so much to all my new fans on my new business page! Posting reviews is a great way to spread the word! Let me know of your experiences! See you soon!

Here Comes The Bride

This week has been fun for many reasons. I have seen some of the pictures that have been edited from last weeks photoshoot and they are incredible. I moved my tools at work to a different station and though it has taken some getting used to, it is a nice change of pace. But the highlight of my week by far was doing hair and makeup for one of my wonderful friends, Sarah Hoyt, now Sarah Kidd. I was so proud to be making her glamorous for her big day! It is always naturally a little more meaningful when you know the bride and actually get to see the beauty walking down the aisle. It feels great to know that in some way I was a small part in the joy of the begining of the rest of her life. It was great to make her feel relaxed and pampered, as every bride should feel. Her hair was my favorite bridal hair I have done so far in my career. It was loose curls pulled back in a gorgeous updo. She had a slight "poof" on the top with a gorgeous headband that made it so special. It was a wonderful added sparkle that made the hair what it was.

This is a good lesson to learn from sarah that a simple hair accessory can make all the difference. Never be afraid to experiment with headbands, decorative pins, ribbon, or even flowers. The key is to not go overboard and keep it simple. You want it to be exactly what the word is, "accessory". Not too over powering.

Photo Shoot with Stephanie Hines

Today was a great day. It was photo shoot day! I was involved in a creative collaboration with Stephanie Hines of Shines Photography. She is a very talented photographer in the Nashville area. She shoots everything from babies to weddings to prom to musicians to editorial. She is young and has a fresh eye for style and knows the latest trends. You can see her work at www.shinesphotography.net. We had three amazing beautiful models for the day: Julie Canaday, Meghan Connors, and Carolina Gruber. We started all the girls with strapless looks and got bare shoulder beauty shots. All the girls have different looks and have their own styles. We put Meghan in a sweater and scarf with a HOT pink lip stick. We put Julie in a floppy new yorker style hat and a black leather jacket. It was very chic and a city girl look. We put a jacket with a fur hood on Carolina and got a tight close shot with the fur around her face. Then we put Carolina in her strapless shirt again and wet down her hair and face. It was very interesting to spray her in the face! I felt so bad but it turned out really amazing! The last look was Julie with a face painting technique I did with different color eyeliner pencils. With lots of experimenting with posing we found the perfect side shot and incorporated our fan. It is so wonderful to use our creative senses and get out of our comfort zones and come up with something special and unique. The salon is wonderful but sometimes it is good to get inspired and do something out of the ordinary. Results are still to come. The pictres are in the editing stages but here is a sneak preview of the video!

Dramatic Change

Every client has a haircolor or style in mind that they would never picture on themselves. This blog is a personal story from one of my clients about how dramatic change, an open mind, and putting trust and faith in your stylist can change your life in ways you never thought. This is my favorite hair story in my career so far and the one that I am most proud of. Laura Gruber is a nashvillian who is currently a student at Middle Tennessee State University. I met her two years ago when I began dating her brother. She is branded with Venezuelan beauty. She is a beautiful latina woman who embraces her life and always has fun where ever she is. When I met her she had long platinum blonde hair. Laura is a beautiful girl who can pull off any look, so obviously it looked great. In the back of my mind I knew that I could take her look to the next level, it would just take time and trust building. I did her hair blonde for about 5 months, building her trust. I dropped little hints about maybe going a shade darker. But I knew she was hesitant. Finally after subtle hints and convincing her that she would love it, she agreed. I knew that I would gradually go darker. You never want to shock a client. It is also a smart when taking a blonde darker to do it gradually over time to keep it from having a muddy green look. When you paint a white wall dark it takes many coats. I must admit while coloring I was quite nervous, I knew she would love it but this was quite a change. When we finished we were both so excited! It was so rich and beautiful. Her eyes popped off her face and I knew we had a winner! Being such a personal friend to her I noticed so many changes in her life after becoming brunette. This week she decided she wanted to take her brown hair, which lasted her 5 months without touchups, to black with caramel highlights! She completely loves it! This is proof that in life you cannot be afraid of change. Some times it can make life even better than you ever imagined. Its so important to not set limits on yourself with hair. Hair is an accessory that can improve your overall look. It doesn't have to be the same all the time because your life isn't the same all the time. If there is something you never considered just go for it!

My Most Favorite Products

Products can be so tricky can't they? How much to use? What to use? Why is this not working? This blog is dedicated to all my product lovers. My favorite styling line is S Factor by TiGi. If you have ever been to my chair you know it smells wonderful! This is the result of my styling products! All of the products in this blog are available for purchase at my salon at very reasonable salon prices.

S FACTOR BODY BOOSTER- This is my most frequently bought item. It has the most delicious smell and works miracles. A couple sprays on your roots with wet hair and blow dry with a round brush. The result- GORGEOUS volume and a va va voom look with lots of shine.

S FACTOR SMOOTHING LUSTERIZER- This is my own personal favorite product. I use it all the time. For those of us with that "frizzy curly unmanagable" hair the smoothing lusterizer helps with smoothing and taming. You can apply it to wet or dry hair and if you look at closely there is a shimmer in the cream that makes your hair shine!

S FACTOR SHINY HAPPY PEOPLE- This is a shine spray that I typically spray on each section before flat ironing. It is a thin sheen that leaves the hair looking shiny, however not giving it a greasy dirty look like most shine sprays. Everytime I use it in the salon all the girls say "Oh Kayla is spraying the smell good stuff!" Trust me you'll love it!

These are for sure my top 3 favorite products! Questions are welcome! Make your appointment soon!

Trials and Struggles of Bangs

My first blog is going to be about my most frequently asked question......bangs. How do I know if they are right for me? What is the best way to style them? How do I fight this crazy part? Bangs are the best way to change your look without cutting length off your hair and changing your cut dramatically. It can change the appearance of your face shape and update your look! My main concern when cutting someones hair is cowlicks. Sometimes if they are too strong perhaps bangs isn't the right choice for you. Or perhaps we can modify how we cut them and style them so they are manageable in your daily life. The best and most efficient way to style a straight across bang or a side swept bang is with a simple hairdryer and flat paddle brush. The hair goes where the air from the dryer is directed. The hair must go forward first before going to the side. Position the hairdryer above your head with the nozzle facing forward. Brush most of your hair to the front so it is completely in your face. Blowdry to the front and both sides keeping the hair moving at all times. This eliminates the moisture and will keep the hair directed to the front fighting cowlicks. This is the most efficient way to dry your bangs. For more of a side swept look after you have removed the moisture use a round brush to act as a roller right on your forehead. This will give you a slight flip or curl! Questions are welcome! At the salon I do complimentary bang trims! Come in with dry hair and you can get a free bang trim! See you soon!

The Stylist.

Hello Everyone! I am going to be starting this blog for hair, makeup, and styling tips! Mention this blog on your next visit and you will get a special $5 off for girls and $3 off for guys. I will keep updates of photoshoots, weddings, and other fun things that I get to do with my amazing job. Graduating high school quickly allowed me to start my career very early. I went to cosmetology school at Paul Mitchell the School Nashville. My class was the very first class to go through the new school and I was the youngest of my class to graduate. For the past two and a half years I have steadily built my clientele with much help from word of mouth from my amazing committed clients. I have worked with numorous photographers and have been a part of so many beautiful weddings. I was also fortunate enough to travel with a musical as the lead hair, makeup, and wardrobe. I am also currently working on my associates of business degree to further my education.
All of these things have led me to where I am now. I work at Hair and Body Day Spa and Salon. I have learned in the beginnings of my career that putting the client first is the main goal. That is my goal as a stylist. My favorite part of my job is seeing looks on client's faces after they are finished and knowing that they feel better leaving than when they came in. I feel as if I have added something positive in their lives even in a simple hair style. This is my motivation an this is what makes work not seem like work. As your stylist, I will never do any style that I know will be difficult, unmanagable, or too shocking. I like edgy looks that are mantainable. I assure you I am always thinking of new ideas for all my clients!
I hope that you will check out this blog for tips, updates, latest trends, and experiences as a stylist. Enjoy!
